Show Notes:

It’s no secret that back-to-school is one of the most challenging times, especially if you’re a new teacher. With so much to do, expectations and procedures to teach, and being pulled in so many directions, it’s no wonder you’re left feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and doubting whether this is truly the job for you. But even though those are the thoughts you’re having, I’m here to tell you you’re amazing, capable,  and right where you need to be.

I’ve always found it interesting that our mind can trick us into thinking the opposite of what we know to be true when we’re stressed or in survival mode, which is exactly the stage you’re in at the beginning of the school year. This is why it’s easy to jump into fear and begin to think critically of yourself and the job you’re doing. However, I don’t want you to go down that spiral and start the year off on a negative note, but instead, positively.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing 3 teacher mindset shifts and reminders for you to remember at the start of the school year. Each one provides an opportunity for a growth mindset for teachers, both new and seasoned. As teachers, you’re so focused on making an impact and planning the best lessons to better serve your students that you sometimes lose focus on yourself, what you need, and your abilities. But with the mindset shifts I’m sharing with you, my hope is that you will start the year strong and navigate the first month of school and beyond with positivity, confidence, and success.

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • 3 teacher mindset shifts to remember at back-to-school and how to apply them throughout the year
  • Why, when we’re stressed, busy, or overwhelmed, we forget what we know to be true and ways to overcome those thoughts
  • The importance of setting boundaries for yourself and why you should adopt the phrase “done is better than perfect”
  • Why your students might be feeling the same way you are at the start of the school year and ways to boost their confidence through class activities

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
