Show Notes:

One of the biggest things for any teacher, new or veteran, is setting up a solid and clear classroom management plan. This is the key to your sanity throughout the year and your longevity in the profession. What makes a good classroom management plan so complex are the many layers to it and the actual implementation of it. But having a clearly laid out and thoughtfully prepared plan for the beginning of the school year will increase your chances of having an effective and successful school year.

I find this topic so important that I dedicate an entire course to it in the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy and countless resources inside The Classroom Management Club to help you create your classroom management plan. Unfortunately, I'm not able to give you all that in a podcast episode, but I'm going to spend the next four episodes diving into the different components of a solid classroom management plan, providing you with a structure and clear outline that will set you up for success.

In this episode, I'm sharing how to lay the foundation of an effective classroom management plan in four clear steps. Each step addresses the different aspects of managing a classroom. These steps include getting clarity on the rules, routines, and class jobs while also thinking about how to model and teach them to your students, ways to deliver natural consequences while finding positivity in each of your students, and finally, the importance of building genuine relationships with your students.

Laying the foundation of your classroom management plan will give you a leg to stand on when difficult behaviors arise throughout the year and show your students what you expect out of them while still sprinkling in a little fun and classroom community along the way. There's a reason why there's so much research, information, and resources available for classroom management. That's because it's the foundation for a successful school year. So, if you're looking to revamp or create your classroom management plan for the first time, think about these four foundational steps to begin establishing your plan for the beginning of the school year.

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • How to establish a solid classroom management plan that's clearly laid out and thoughtfully prepared by providing you with a structure and clear outline
  • Ways to lay the foundation of an effective classroom management plan in four clear steps with examples of what this looks like in your classroom
  • Why you need to get clear on what your rules, routines, and procedures are, but also how you're going to effectively teach and model them to your students
  • The importance of creating a balance between delivering natural consequences and consistently finding the positive in your students and the real-world application this teaches students
  • Ways I can help and support you more with your classroom management plan through the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy and The Classroom Management Club

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
